Specialty Blast Cleaning Equipment
Dry Ice Blasting
Dry ice abrasive blasting uses extremely cold dry ice (-110°F) to remove material without damaging the underlying surface. As cold dry ice abrasive impacts warmer surface materials, it loosens them from the underlying surface and quickly converts back to CO2 gas. This lifts loose material from the underlying surface and leaves only the removed material to be cleaned up. Because the dry ice is soft enough not to pit or damage the underlying surface, dry ice abrasive blasting will not abrade the underlying surface as other abrasive media can.
Dry Ice blasting is an approved cleaning process by the EPA, FDA, and USDA, with most equipment and machinery able be cleaned in place.
Configuration of Dry Ice Abrasive Blasting Equipment
Configuration considerations for your dry ice abrasive blasting equipment:
- Blast clean with Dry Ice (solidified CO2)
- In either pelletized or (shaved) block form
- Sublimes on contact (i.e. converts directly from solid to gaseous CO2)
- No abrasive to clean up and dispose
- An environmentally safe, soft, abrasive media
- Cleans via “volumetric expansion” instead of harsh “kinetic energy” contact
- An effective, but more gentle, process
- Requires special care in handling
- Low temperature (-110o F)
- Packaged in sealed tubs to maintain shelf life
- Must maintain adequate ventilation in blasting area
- Typical applications:
- Food and beverage processing
- Dry Ice is an approved media by the EPA, FDA, and USDA
- Fire restoration
- Mold (i.e. mildew) remediation
- Printing presses and rubber processing equipment
- Cleaning electric motor windings
- Perfect for general cleaning applications
- Easily integrate into production lines to clean items in place
- Food and beverage processing
Examples
Sponge Media Blasting
Sponge abrasive blasting uses urethane-foam abrasive sponge media to clean and prepare surfaces. Sponge abrasive blasting media can be dry or wetted with cleaning agents to capture and remove a variety of surface contaminants including oil, lead, chemicals, and radionuclides. Sponge abrasive blasting supports federal, state, and local environmental policies, because abrasive sponge media captures contaminates and, if wetted, supports dust control without excess damping of the surface being cleaned.
Sponge abrasive blast media is available with a variety of grits incorporated into the sponge, including aluminum oxide, steel, plastic, and glass for concrete and metallic surfaces, or it can be grit-free (just sponge) to clean more delicate surfaces.
Configuration of Sponge Abrasive Blasting Equipment
Configuration considerations for your sponge abrasive blasting equipment:
- Blast clean with Urethane sponge material
- Soft and pliable
- Recyclable
- Perfect for applications where low dust and low abrasive rebound are critical, such as:
- Nuclear remediation
- Lead abatement
- Bridge maintenance
- Fire restoration
- Sponge material comes in over 20 types and grit sizes to suit specific job requirements:
- Combined with either Aluminum Oxide or Steel Grit for profiling or abrading
- Either plain or combined with Plastic or Glassbeads for sensitive substrates
- Special equipment available to suit any need:
- Backpack unit for maximum portability on small jobs
- Wheeled, portable, units
- Blast-and-Recovery units for large jobs
Bicarbonate of Soda Blasting
Bicarbonate of soda abrasive blasting is a non-toxic; FDA/USDA approved cleaning process. Bicarbonate of soda abrasive blasting uses 100 percent water soluble and environmentally safe food-grade baking soda to clean and prepare almost any surface quickly and safely.
Bicarbonate of soda abrasive blasting removes surface corrosion, paint and coatings from a variety of metals, plastics and composites without substrate damage or distortion. And it won't harm hard anodized coatings.
Configuration of Bicarbonate of Soda Abrasive Blasting Equipment
Configuration considerations for your bicarbonate of soda abrasive blasting equipment:
- Blast clean with Bicarbonate of Soda crystals
- Soft and friable, with sharp edges
- Water soluble to minimize waste volume
- Can be used either dry or with water mist
- Perfect for applications with sensitive substrates
- Architectural restoration
- Food and beverage
- Automotive and marine
- Industrial maintenance, degreasing, graffiti removal
- Pulp and paper
- Media comes in 14 “formulas” to match job requirements (soft to aggressive)
- Equipment specially designed to take the unique flow characteristics of the media into account
- 3 Pressure Vessel sizes available:
- 1 ft3 – hold 50 pounds of media
- 2 ft3 – holds 100 pounds of media
- 3 ft3 – holds 200 pounds of media
